Phoenix to Tucson
Today I said goodbye to Phoenix and headed south towards Tucson. While I was packing, I met Melissa Benson. Melissa told me that her grandson died of cancer at the age of two. She also shared that her mother is a breast and ovarian cancer survivor.

It was 3 years ago today that my Mom died of breast cancer. Miss you Mom!

Lorraine Raimondo by the ocean on one of her own "roadtrips".

Woo wee! OK, stating the obvious but it is HOT in the desert! And the strange thing today was that it was humid – so I heard none of that “oh but it’s a dry heat” from the locals because they were complaining too.
Today was an amazing day. It both began and ended with me meeting a pair of very special people. In between there was a dinosaur, a town and a tree.

I decided to take in a couple classic tourist sites while in LA. First stop was Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. Built in 1927, this is the place where all the stars leave their handprints in the cement.
The Theatre is also along the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Freddy Kruger was there, a couple pirates, Dr. Evil, Batman and at least three Spidermen. This Spidey was my favorite because he embraced his character the most.

Kate Walsh, star of Private Practice and daugher of Angela Embree, a breast cancer survivor for over 10 years.
Today was an exciting day here in the land of swimmin’ pools and movie stars. I had the privilege to wonder around the set of the ABC TV show Private Practice - the a spin-off of Grey’s Anatomy that stars Kate Walsh as Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd.
We were greeted at the entrance gate to the studios by Grant Nailing. Grant’s father is currently battling stage 5 cancer.

One of the absolutely most visited places along the California coast is the Hearst Castle. The castle sits on 250,000 acres of rolling hills overlooking the ocean in San Simeon, CA. When William Randolph Hearst inherited the land from his parents in 1919 he decided to build his dream ranch. It consists of a huge master home, several “cottages” and at one time the largest zoo in the world. The building continued until he died 28 years later, never really being completed. Hearst was a stickler for detail and also changed his mind a lot. Like the Neptune Pool that was built and torn down three times before it was just right.
I wish this blog were scratch ‘n’ sniff because Big Sur smells fantastic! Sure, it’s amazing to look at and you want to stop at every turn off and take a picture, but it’s more than that. It’s the air, the breeze, the ocean, the sun and yes that smell! It’s an aroma of sea and hmmm…sage and …uh …eucalyptus and…oh, I don’t know what it is, but I can tell you it doesn’t grow in Manhattan.

If you ever need to go from San Francisco to LA, you absolutely must make the time to take HWY 1. Those of you who have done the drive know what I’m talking about, and those that haven’t … one day you’ll see.
